Acryl Inc.(CEO Jin Park), a leading artificial intelligence platform company, announced today the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Korean Association against Violence and Abuse (KAVA) to co-develop domain-specific AI solutions aimed at supporting victims of sexual and other crimes.
This collaboration brings together Acryl’s cutting-edge AI technologies with KAVA’s extensive expertise in field-based psychological support, crisis intervention, and AI dataset development. KAVA has collected and verified approximately 4,000 counseling cases annually and has already implemented specialized services such as AI-assisted investigative reporting tools, expert support systems for law enforcement, and victim condition assessment models.
The partnership seeks to develop a one-of-a-kind AI model specifically tailored to handle the deeply sensitive and nuanced narratives of sexual crime victims—an area that conventional large language models have struggled to address due to policy constraints.
Acryl will leverage its high-performing small-scale large language model (sLLM) technology—recognized as the top-ranked model on Korea's “Horang-i Leaderboard” for open-source LLMs—to create an advanced AI solution that can respond in real time to victims' emotional and contextual states. This system will offer appropriate legal, psychological, and administrative guidance. Acryl is committed to prioritizing the safety, reliability, and security of the solution, along with continuous technical support and enhancement.
KAVA will actively contribute its specialized clinical data and real-world case knowledge, and will serve as a legal, psychological, and administrative advisor throughout the development process. The organization will also engage in various collaborative initiatives to validate the solution in real-world settings and maximize its social impact.
Both organizations intend to pursue joint R&D initiatives with relevant government agencies such as the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Police Agency. They will conduct real-world pilot tests to validate the AI solution’s performance, refine the technology through continuous feedback, and work to ensure broad dissemination of the results for public benefit.
“This agreement represents a meaningful step in applying Acryl’s advanced AI technologies toward achieving public good by supporting vulnerable communities,” said jin Park, CEO of Acryl Inc. “We will do our utmost to ensure our AI-based solutions effectively promote psychological recovery and reintegration for crime victims, while contributing to the creation of a safer society.”
This strategic MOU builds on the two organizations’ history of successful collaboration, including the 2023 launch of JOANNE, an AI-powered mental health screening service showcased at the 36th Information Culture Month Ceremony. Developed in partnership with KAVA, JOANNE engages children in natural conversation to detect signs of psychological and physical distress, suicidal ideation, and abuse. The tool gained national attention after KAVA used it to identify a real case of child abuse.
This partnership further strengthens the organizations' commitment to building a digital, AI-driven social safety net. It stands as a leading example of public-interest AI—technology designed not only for innovation but for meaningful societal impact. Efforts like this set an important precedent for the future role of artificial intelligence in solving real-world problems
